Malibu, California—The city of Malibu has announced that it will spend $1 million in 2019 to install the roof tile for its newly opened $1 billion apartment tower.
“We will be spending a significant amount of money this year to install a roof tile that will help keep the Malibu skyline bright,” the city announced in a statement.
“The roof tile will be one of the most cost-effective ways to keep the skyline clear, while also providing the benefit of reducing the need for expensive new buildings.”
The project will begin in 2021 and will be completed by 2028.
The city will have to pay for the tile work as part of a citywide cost-savings package for 2019.
“In the next five years, we will spend an additional $1,800,000 to replace the tiles,” Malibu Mayor Scott Hargrave told The Verge.
“There’s a lot of cost savings that go along with that.
We’ve got the money.
We’re getting the roof.
We’ll do the work.”
The city plans to replace most of the tiles with recycled materials by 2020.
